The Charity Exhibition ‘Thousands Sides of Macau Tourism’ of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management was successfully held on April 21, 24 to 26, 2023. Under the guidance of Prof. Amy Siu Ian SO, Associate Professor of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management, the exhibition was jointly curated by eight undergraduate students who took the Convention and Exhibition Management course. The theme of the exhibition was inspired by Macau’s unique cultural history and integrated resorts. The team in charge of the exhibition came up with a creative idea for a treasure hunt game. They divided the booths into six categories: Integrated Resorts, Sustainability, Culture, Gastronomy, MICE Entertainment, and Future Outlook. The exhibition attracts the audience through exciting and interactive booth games, conveying the curatorial concept of a thousand sides of Macau, sustainable development in the future and public welfare. The ‘Thousands Sides of Macau Tourism’ attracted more than 500 teachers and students from all over the school. It raised more than 20,000 MOP, which will be donated to Caritas de Macau.

As part of the Convention and Exhibition Management course, students can better understand how academic knowledge and practice come together through a hands-on curatorial experience. The curatorial team for this exhibition comprises several third-year students in the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management, whose proposal stood out in the class. After incorporating Prof. Amy’s suggestions, the curatorial team eventually showcased this charity exhibition on campus after a month and a half of refinement and implementation. On April 21, the charity exhibition ‘Thousands Sides of Macau Tourism’ had a successful launch. Prof. Li MIAO, Head of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management, and other professors of IRTM were in attendance. The entire show’s success could not be separated from the strong support of other students in the course. The students created popular DIY items such as aromatherapy candles, fragrance stones, and scrubs with sincerity.

The students on the curatorial team were involved in every stage of preparing for the exhibition, including purchasing materials, decorating the venue, and advertising. They also played a key role in financial and marketing tasks during the implementation phase. In addition, the team carefully chose risk plans to handle unexpected situations, such as problems with installing large decorative drapery or delays in receiving dessert ingredients. As a result, the students were able to put their theoretical knowledge into practice, gain practical experience, and learn the value of collaboration through organizing and preparing for the task. Cherry, Ziqing JIN, a curatorial team member, expressed that the experience was essential in building her confidence for future related tasks, which will undoubtedly benefit her in her job-seeking.
