On February 2, students of GESB2001 – Food, Eating and Culture, led by Prof. Faye Feier CHEN, Assistant Professor of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management, actively participated in the launch ceremony and the first seminar of the “Macao Welcomes You” Training Programs for International Guests co-organized by the Macau Government Tourist Office and MGM. Ms. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of MGTO, expressed in her remarks that the program will introduce the knowledge and skills of welcoming international visitors to practitioners of tourism and other related industries through various forms of online and offline activities, which will help the industry to better receive diversified international visitors, and enhance the students’ understanding of different cultures and customs, so as to promote the sustainable and quality development of Macao’s tourism industry.

In the “Islamic Religious Culture and Cultural Customs” seminar, students not only learned about Islamic religious etiquettes, festivals, and cultural customs of Islam but also learned about the important points to note when receiving Islamic tourists, their travel needs and Halal certification process and system. Some Halal food was also prepared for the participants to taste, allowing them to experience the unique charm of Islamic culture.

The “Macao Welcomes You” Training Programs for International Guests enabled the participating students to have a more comprehensive understanding of the needs of visitors from different cultural backgrounds, which broadened their horizons and further deepened their interest in Macao’s tourism industry as well as international tourism.
