On October 17-18, the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management was honored to have Professor John. S. Perry Hobson, Director of the Academy of Tourism at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas), Professor Rob Simons, Associate Director of the Academy of Tourism at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas), and Professor Joseph Lema of the College of Hospitality at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, U.S. to have academic exchanges with the students and faculty staff.
On October 17, Prof. Glenn James MCCARTNEY of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management invited the three professors to hold a tourism panel in his postgraduate course. Prof. John S. Perry Hobson gave a lecture on the topic of cruise tourism, explaining the history and development of cruise tourism to postgraduate students. And he also pointed out some existing problems of cruise tourism, such as over-tourism and environmental pollution. Prof. John S. Perry Hobson and the participants looked forward to the new trends and possibilities for the sustainable development of the cruise tourism industry in the future. Prof. Rob Simons, Prof. Joseph Lema, and Prof. Glenn James MCCARTNEY also expressed their views and opinions on the development of the cruise tourism industry. During the free discussion session, students actively participated in the question-and-answer session, asking many questions about the tourism industry and its future development direction. Three professors answered the students’ questions patiently and kindly and combined their own experience and practice to provide students with a lot of forward-looking views and suggestions.
On October 18, Professor John. S. Perry Hobson, Professor Rob Simons, and Professor Joseph Lema had a meeting with some professors of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management. During the meeting, the professors exchanged views on the teaching mode, teaching characteristics, and different activity opportunities of their schools, and put forward their own views on the necessity of the combination of industry and education. Finally, the professors discussed the future direction of cooperation between multiple institutions.
This academic exchange event has enriched the teaching and research content of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management, provided students with the opportunity to communicate with internationally renowned experts, and also brought more possibilities for future academic cooperation and inter-institutional cooperation.
