On the morning of May 16, Prof. Laurie Wu, the Associate Professor of Temple University, was invited by the Department of Integrated Resorts and Tourism Management of the University of Macau to give a lecture on “On servicescape and its functions of packaging, socializing and signing” to the teachers and students. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Yuansi HOU, Associate Professor of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management.
Prof. Laurie Wu first explored how lighting design can be leveraged as an experiential marketing tool to attract customers, then emphasized the socialization function of servicescapes, discussing how and why a hotel’s public space affords the construction of psychological ownership and then explored the signaling function of servicescapes design and in particular repurposed servicescapes design. At the end of the lecture, Prof. Laurie Wu discussed future research directions with the faculty and students to further understand servicescapes and their evolving functions in the service experience.
Prof. Laurie WU is Associate Professor at Temple University. She received her PhD from The Pennsylvania State University. Her works have appeared in major journals including International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, Journal of Business Research. Also, she is the editorial board member of Journal of Travel Research, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Insights and Service Marketing Quarterly.
