The Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Macau successfully held the Tourism + Salon Lecture on September 20, 2023. The Academic Salon Series 002——From Mindfulness to Eudemonia: Implications to Tourism Studies, was lectured by Dr. Xiao Shannon YI, Research Assistant Professor of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management, and was hosted by Assistant Professor Prof. Faye Chen.
In this lecture, Dr. Xiao Shannon YI, Research Assistant Professor, briefly distinguished the differences between social-cognitive mindfulness and meditative mindfulness based on the literature. Then, she reviewed how meditative mindful episodes associate with people’s psychological wellbeing and eudemonia. Finally, Dr. Xiao Shannon YI, Research Assistant Professor, also discussed how to use meditation to enhance the travel experience.
Dr. Yi received her Ph.D. degree in Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include consumer psychology of technology usage, positive psychology and tourism, consumption and the self. She has published papers in top-tier academic journals such as Tourism Management, Annals of Tourism Research, and Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research.
