3 June 2024 – In a collaborative effort with the Social Welfare Bureau, Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, and the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming at the University of Macau, SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) co-hosted the kick-off ceremony for the “Responsible Gambling Promotions 15th Anniversary – Seeking Help for Winning the Future” on 3 June at Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau. This event marked the beginning of this year’s series of activities aimed at promoting responsible gambling.
The ceremony was attended by prominent Guests of Honour including Mr. Hon Wai, Director of the Social Welfare Bureau; Ms. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Mr. Lio Chi Chong, Acting Director of Gambling Inspection and Coordination Bureau (“DICJ”); Mr. Sun Yaohua, Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Prof. Yu Jun, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration at University of Macau; Prof. Davis Fong, Representative of Responsible Gambling Organizing Committee and Director of Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming at the University of Macau; Ms. Cheang Sut Chan, Head of the Centre of Moral Education of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Mr. Siu Yu Ning, Deputy Director of Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies, Macao Polytechnic University; and Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM.
From 3 to 5 June, a photo exhibition was held in the south area on the Level one of the resort, which took visitors on a journey through the evolution of Macau’s gaming industry and its efforts in promoting responsible gambling throughout the years. The exhibition showcased a historic plaque from the Lisboa Casino, highlighting SJM’s dedication to promoting disciplined behaviours in gambling since the 1970s. The launch day featured a series of engaging activities, organised by local problem gambling prevention and treatment centres, including interactive game booths, consultation services, trivia challenges, and family-oriented workshops, all designed to foster responsible gambling practices among residents, tourists, and employees. Furthermore, SJM collaborated with various schools and associations to organise group tours and publicise the positive messages to the wider community.
Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, commented, “SJM is delighted to host the inaugural event of the ‘Responsible Gambling Promotions 15th Anniversary’ series, showcasing the collective efforts of the government, enterprises, academic units, professional organisation and associations in advancing responsible gambling.” She added, “SJM will sustain its support for the cause by designing education and outreach efforts to engage the public, including workshops, trivia games, pop-up roadshows, and counselling services, to complement government efforts and contribute to a healthy and harmonious society.”
In collaboration with the Yat On Responsible Gambling Counselling Centre, SJM has long been dedicated to organising responsible gambling campaigns for its team members and various community groups. Additionally, SJM partners with social service organizations, higher education institutions, and professional agencies, leveraging expertise from specialists to impart responsible gambling practices and provide assistance to individuals in need.
