FBA Distinguished Scholar Seminar (DSS) Series: “Building Research Programs in Tourism and Hospitality: A Personal Journey” was hosted by Prof. Yuansi, Associate Professor of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management on August 25, 2023 and Prof. Xiang (Robert) LI, was invited to deliver the seminar.

Prof. Dr. Xiang (Robert) Li is a professor and Arthur F. McGonigle Senior Fellow of the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Temple University. He is also the Director of Temple’s U.S.-Asia Center for Tourism and Hospitality Research. In the seminar, he explained the importance and approach to building a research program for teachers and students. Prof. Xiang (Robert) Li cited his series of studies on the concept of destination image as an example to give participants an idea of the benefits of conducting a research program. At the same time, Prof. Xiang (Robert) Li also shared his personal reflections on establishing research programs in the field of tourism and hospitality based on his experience.

At the end of the seminar, Prof. Xiang (Robert) Li also encouraged the students to stay focused and open-minded when building their research projects, and communicate with industry elites. The students gained a lot from the cutting-edge knowledge and professional insights, which stimulated their interest in exploring the fields of international destination branding and academic career planning.
