Globalization has been accompanied by mushrooming multinational enterprises (MNEs). However, the world is now going through a great change, anti-globalization and protectionism have risen, global industrial chain suffer reorganization, COVID-19 outbreak and rampant around the world, which have posed a great threat to these MNEs, as well as bring a new opportunity and challenge. What is the future of MNEs? Will the trend of MNE expansion and development continue after the Pandemic is over? How will these MNEs be governed? As a case in point, in 2020, China has 133 top Fortune Global 500 largest MNEs, surpassing the USA’s 121. This is in stark contrast to the situation in 1990: not a single Chinese company entered the list. How have Chinese enterprises successfully broken into the global market? What lessons can they share? How do these MNEs operate globally? In particular, how are they governed facing multi-cultures and different political and legal systems, particularly in light of the changes of the global situation?
To address these and other challenging issues and to promote research and education in this important area, the Business Research and Training Centre (BRTC) of University of Macau, together with the China Academy of Corporate Governance (CACG) at Nankai University and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Alliance of Accounting, are pleased to jointly run this Online Forum on MNEs Expansion and Governance on 28 September 2020.
