DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: MACAU FOCUS, GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

As an integral department of the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), the Department of Accounting and Information Management (DAIM) offers the most popular Accounting programmes as well as the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics (BIDA) programme in Macau. The BSc and MSc in Accounting programmes prepare students for a professional qualification in accounting and equip them for progressing towards a leadership role in the financial sector. BSc in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics (BIDA) programme is designed to offer students a unique edge of the IT world together with the data analytical knowledge and business intelligence skills to support quality decision making, which prepare them to serve in the competitive IT and big data arena.

DAIM has strived to accomplish excellence in education and research in Macau and the Asia-Pacific region. Apart from the achievement of international accreditations by AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS , the Accounting programmes are recognized by leading accounting bodies including ACCA (UK), CIMA (UK), CPA (Australia), AIA, and HKICPA, and is granted the maximum number of paper exemptions in Macau. The diverse background of our faculty is the key to global recognition of our programmes. Our teaching staff with PhDs come from universities in jurisdictions including the United Kingdom, the United States, China, Australia, South Korea, Portugal, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau. We have also part-time instructors who are practicing accountants and auditors from the industry. The diverse training and education of our internationalized faculty enrich our students’ learning and training along with the development of the community.

EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS

In addition to professional training, DAIM students are exposed to many opportunities to enrich their learning experiences. We encourage our students to learn from various dimensions, to integrate knowledge and skills in multiple business-related disciplines, and to develop the self-learning capacity in the ever-changing environment. FBA and DAIM organize the FBA International Exchange Programme, internships, competitions as well as seminars and conferences. The FBA International Exchange Program offers students the opportunity to experience a different learning and cultural environment; DAIM students are frequent occupants on award podiums of business knowledge, taxation, and management project competitions locally, regionally, and internationally; an internship element is built into our programmes in which students are required to fulfil a certain number of internship hours in the industry or designated organizations; we holds seminars and conferences regularly so that interested students, scholars, and business practitioners can participate, share, and learn from one another.

Our graduates have been well received by both the commercial and governmental sectors. Many of them have achieved professional qualifications and have taken up executive positions in Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Ernst & Young, KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers), government agencies, multinational cooperation, local firms, banking and finance institutions, and IT companies. A sizable number of our graduates have also established their own businesses, contributing to the development of the business sector in the Greater Bay Area and beyond. With a good foundation of accounting, data analytics, information technology as well as business management theories and practice, pursuing further education abroad is also common. Our students are often admitted to prestigious universities, such as London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Toronto, University of Melbourne, University of Hong Kong, University of Manchester, Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Southern California, The University of Queensland, University of Warwick, and other renowned universities world-wide.

CUTTING-EDGE AND RELEVANT RESEARCH

DAIM is making its impact on research in areas covering corporate governance, financial accounting, auditing, business information systems, and data analytics. Our faculty’s researches appear regularly in the world’s top academic journals which are of relevance to the Greater Bay Area and globally, including Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Operations Research, Journal of World Business, Journal of Management Studies, Accounting Organizations and Society, Journal of Corporate Finance, Contemporary Accounting Research and Review of Accounting Studies. European Journal of Operational Research, Production and Operations Management, We have established a strong research team in the area of corporate governance and data analytics. Our faculty are serving as editorial positions and members of review boards in international scholarly journals. In an attempt to maintain an international research network and to boost research collaborations with universities worldwide and the market, DAIM regularly organizes seminar and conferences which bring global researchers and local business practitioners together. Our goal is to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and to promote corporate governance and data analytics as inseparable parts of business administration.
