The University of Macau, along with Fudan University, Nankai University, and Sun Yat-sen University, jointly initiated the establishment of the China Tourism Education Alliance to implement the 14th Five-Year Plan for Tourism Development and fully exploit Macau’s strategic positioning as the ” World Center for Tourism and Leisure “. The first meeting of the alliance was successfully held at the UM on October 20, 2022, with Professor Miao Li, Associate Professor Hou Yuansi from University of Macau, Associate Professor Wang Sha from Fudan University, Professor Xu Hong from Nankai University, and Professor Liu Jingyan, Professor Han Xiaoyun and Professor Wu Chenguang from Sun Yat-sen University, as representatives of the executive departments of the four universities. Professor Miao Li, the meeting’s moderator, gave a sincere welcome to all of the attendants at the alliance meeting.

The Global Affairs Office of the University of Macau, which acts as a focal contact unit for external academic or education-related entities. The signing procedure for the alliance agreement was first explained by Wang Ruibing, Director of Global Affairs Office. Following that, the meeting covered and approved the Alliance’s charter, choice of the logo, and work plan for the upcoming year. The four alliance members also jointly launches the Inaugural Frontiers in Hospitality and Tourism Annual Research Symposium, aiming to build a platform that will facilitate communication and support cooperative innovation in tourism-related research. The alliance is expected to enhance the cooperation in tourism management by combining the strengths in teaching and research of flagship universities and institutions.

The department’s forward-thinking and diversified development path has been further promoted by its membership in the China Tourism Education Alliance. Meanwhile, it successfully combines the “Tourism +” talent development approach, which further helps collaborate with the alliance’s members to explore infinite opportunities for the advancement of tourism education.
