Overview

  1. Background information for the collaborative programme

With the emphasis of the Macao SAR Government and the support of Mainland China, the development of the integrated tourism and leisure industry has been identified as a long-term strategy to promote the appropriately diversified and high-quality development of Macao’s economy. With the announcement and implementation of “The General Plan for Building a Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin” in September 2021, favorable conditions have been created for the diversification of Macao’s industries.

Macao’s integrated tourism and leisure industry is expected to be closely linked to Mainland China’s tourism industry. In order to support the development of local top talents, especially the new generation of Macao talents, the University of Macau (UM) will actively seek opportunities to collaborate with top universities in Mainland China to offer high-quality tourism and hospitality programmes.

UM and Fudan University signed a strategic collaboration framework agreement in 2021, with the aim of promoting the development of higher education and scientific research in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. To deepen the collaboration, it is proposed to offer the collaborative programme to cultivate the top talents in hospitality and tourism discipline.

  1. Objectives of the collaborative programme
  • Cultivates top talents for Macao’s development of its World Centre of Tourism and Leisure;
  • Provides students with the basic knowledge of business, hospitality and tourism and gain comprehensive insights into the cultural tourism and tourism industry of Mainland China;
  • Prepares students with the needed background knowledge for their career development in Macao and the Greater Bay Area.
  1. The collaborative programme framework
Target students Undergraduate students majoring in BSc in International Integrated Resort Management with Specialization in Convention and Hospitality Management at UM (One-way programme).
Duration 4 years to complete and graduate from this collaborative programme – It takes 2 academic years in UM and 2 academic years in Fudan, total 4 academic years.

Timeline of study

Who are qualified to apply?

Only Macao or Hong Kong students* can apply for this collaborative programme. Students must complete the required courses before come to study in Fudan University, otherwise the students are unable to graduate within four years to obtain degrees. The application is subjects to final approval of University of Macau and Fudan University.

*Target Students details:

  • Hong Kong and Macao students (holders of either “Hong Kong Identity Card” or “Macao Resident Identity Card”, together with the “Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents”); and
  • BSc in International Integrated Resort Management with Specialization in Convention and Hospitality Management students who were admitted in academic year 2020/2021 onwards; and
  • Students who are in good academic standing and can test out of the Chinese language course (CHLL1000 – University Chinese).

  1. Will the department organize the briefing for the collaborative programme?

Answer: Yes, in each academic year, the department will inform the year one and year two eligible students for the briefing.

  1. I have declared for the Gaming Management specialization for BSc in semester 1 of year 2, can I apply for this collaborative programme?

Answer: No, this collaborative programme only apply to students who specialized in Convention and Hospitality Management.

  1. Do I still need to pay the tuition fee at UM when study at Fudan University?

Answer: No, you only need to pay the tuition fee at Fudan University.

  1. What’s the criteria to select students for the collaborative programme?

Answer: The students have to fulfill all basic requirements. The selection committee in the department will interview the students and make the final decision.

  1. If I do not adapt to the learning environment of Fudan University, can I give up the dual degree programme?

Answer: Yes, you can come back to UM to continue the BSc in International Integrated Resort Management programme. You will only obtain the BSc in International Integrated Resort Management degree from UM if fulfill the graduation requirements. Kindly be reminded for the risk of delayed graduation.
