The University of Macau (UM) held the “Long Service Award and Outstanding Administrative Staff Award Ceremony 2024” on 14th May, presenting the “Long Service Awards” to 198 staff members with 10 to 35 years of service. In addition, 19 staff members received the “Outstanding Administrative Staff Award” and one received the “Most Creative Slogan Award”, in order to acknowledge the hard work and outstanding contribution of many staff members to the University.

Among them, three professors from the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management were honored for their professional achievements and service spirit, which have become role models for the academic community.

Thirty years of teaching: Prof. Davis Ka Chio FONG establishes industry influence  

Prof. Davis Ka Chio FONG, Director of Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming and Professor of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management, was honored with the “Long Service Award (30 Years of Service)” for his more than 30 years of teaching and academic achievements. He has long been dedicated to teaching and cutting-edge research in the fields of tourism management and gambling studies, and has received the FBA Outstanding Teaching Award for the 2024/2025 academic year and the “Outstanding Service Award (External)” for the 2021/2022 academic year. In addition to his academic and teaching excellence, Prof. Davis Ka Chio FONG is also actively involved in public service and policy making, and currently serves as a member of the Tourism Development Committee, a member of the Consultative Committee of Statistics of the Macao SAR Government (UM Representative) and a member of the Chief Executive Election Committee. His outstanding contribution not only promotes the development of the discipline, but also provides important theoretical support for the upgrading of the tourism industry in Macao, and serves as an important bridge between the academia and the industry.

Fifteen years of industry-academia collaboration: Associate Professor Amy Siu Ian SO promotes in-depth university-enterprise integration

Prof. Amy Siu Ian SO, Assistant Dean (Business Engagement and Alumni Affairs) of the Faculty of Business Administration, Director of Centre for Tourism and Integrated Resort Studies, and Associate Professor of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management, has been awarded the “Long Service Award (15 Years of Service)”. She emphasizes on cultivating students’ practical skills in teaching, and has successfully promoted a number of university-enterprise cooperation projects with her excellent resource integration skills. From building a platform for students’ practical internships to facilitating multiple business competitions, her efforts have not only enhanced students’ professional competitiveness but also opened up an innovative path for the deep integration of the department and the industry. The Faculty have fully recognized the outstanding work of Prof. Amy Siu Ian SO, and she has been awarded the Faculty of Business Administration’s Dean’s Award for Service Excellence for the years 2021/2022 and 2022/2023.

Ten Years of Nurturing People: Associate Professor Lawrence Hoc Nang FONG’s Contribution to Academic Development

Prof. Lawrence Hoc Nang FONG of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management has been awarded the “Long Service Award (10 Years of Service)” for his ten years of dedication to teaching and academics. In classroom teaching, he insists on being student-centered and focuses on cultivating students’ innovative thinking and practical abilities. In academic research, he devotes himself to delving into the cutting-edge of his field. His down-to-earth and persistent attitude has continuously injected impetus into the talent cultivation and academic development of the department, and is highly recognized by both teachers and students. Over the years, Prof. Lawrence Hoc Nang FONG has also received a number of awards from the Faculty, including the FBA Outstanding Research Award for 2023/2024, the FBA Outstanding Internal Service Award for 2022/2023, and the FBA Outstanding Teaching Award for 2021/2022.
