On 16 November 2022, the Seminar on the Policy Address for the Fiscal Year 2023 of the Macau SAR was successfully held by the Centre for Macau Studies at the University of Macau. The Policy Address for the Fiscal Year 2023 of the Macau SAR with the theme of ‘Making Progress Jointly while Ensuring Stability’ was recently released. The seminar aims to bring together experts and scholars from various fields to discuss the Policy Address and provide advice on governance.
As mentioned in the Policy Address mentioned, to accelerate economic recovery, the first thing is to restore the vitality of the development in the integrated tourism and leisure industry. Moreover, it is necessary to unremittingly adopt the ‘1+4’ industrial policy and continue to promote the development of other major industries including health, modern finance, hi-tech, conventions and exhibitions, and culture and sports. Using the ‘Tourism+’ strategy, Macau will strive to advance its reputation as a world tourism and leisure center as well as expand its non-gaming component of the sector.
According to Amy Siu Ian So, Associate Professor of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management in the Faculty of Business Administration, the SAR government should carry out forward-looking studies to develop novel tourism strategies, such as using technologies to offer a new tourism experience for young travellers, exploring countries and regions with people of great interest and potential to visit Macau during and after the pandemic, as well as improving accommodation policies during the pandemic to provide a satisfactory experience for tourists and enhance the brand image of Macau.
