DRTM Research Seminar: Unlocking the potential of public transport to facilitate social participation of older adults was hosted by Prof. Anthony Ip Kin Wong, Professor of the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management on March 27, 2025, and Prof. Scott McCabe at Birmingham Business School, was invited to be the keynote speaker.
This seminar delved deeply into the socially significant topic of social tourism, systematically outlining its developmental trajectory, which originated in Europe but has manifested in diverse forms of practice globally. Focusing on innovative research in Hong Kong, Professor Scott McCabe unveiled a cross-disciplinary research project conducted in collaboration with the public transportation sector. Through detailed field investigations, the study revealed the multidimensional barriers faced by the local elderly population in participating in tourism, including structural challenges such as transportation accessibility, financial burdens, information gaps, and social cognitive biases.
