On July 10th, Amy Huang, an undergraduate student from the Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management of the University of Macau (UM), was invited to participate in the Asian IR Expo + G2E Asian and shared her research findings on behalf of UM in the parallel session of “Esports in the Region”.
Amy Huang shared her research on “Changing Behavior of Generation Z on Gambling Tourism in China” and “The Current State of the Esports Industry in Asia” at the conference: the results show that Generation X to Z are shifting from gambling to other activities in terms of tourism. The trend of activities is changing. Generation Z shows the least interest in gaming, and secondly, Generation Z is more likely to participate in entertainment economy activities such as concerts and night market economy in gaming tourism cities. Esports is the most common form of recreation for Gen Z, and Esports events have the potential to bring tens of millions of dollars of economic driving force into the city, attracting a younger population and driving a technology-forward economy. This discussion focused on the current state of the industry in the region, its growth, and where its headed.
