Abstract

This study proposes a conceptual model regarding the role of food neophobia on tourists’ local food experiences. The model was empirically tested using data collected through an onsite-survey of international tourists who were visiting Hong Kong. The current study aimed at uncovering who are food neophobic tourists in terms of socio-demographics. Then, the effect of food neophobia on tourists’ local food dining experiences were explored. As results, differences of food neophobia level was found among all socio-demographics except for gender. Also food neophobia negatively affected tourists’ food consumption values, satisfaction with local food and intention to come back to the destination for food tourism.

 

Biography

Jacey Choe is an Assistant Professor of Department of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management at the Faculty of Business Administration of University of Macau. She received her PhD in the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her research interests are psychological and cultural aspects of food, food technology and culinary tourism.
