Abstract
Tourism is a key driver of the global economy but also a significant contributor to environmental degradation. To ensure long-term growth, the tourism industry needs to become more ecologically sustainable. Promoting pro-environmental behavior among tourists is a key aspect of sustainable tourism development. In this presentation, Dr. Xue will explore the existing literature and theories on pro-environmental behavior within the context of tourism. She will specifically examine the role of habits, both behavioral and cognitive, and discuss how and why these habits influence tourists’ pro-environmental behavior. Additionally, Dr. Xue will share her published and ongoing research, focusing on how the way information is presented can moderate the impact of habits on tourists’ pro-environmental behaviors.
