Four students from the University of Macau’s (UM) Department of Accounting and Information Management recently won the Merit Team Award at the Deloitte Tax Championship 2014.
The competition attracted students from 64 universities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Taiwan University, the University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
The UM team qualified for the final after placing first at a regional competition against other teams from Hong Kong and Macao. In the final, the UM team presented a solution for a simulated business case in front of a panel of judges comprised of tax officials, senior business executives, and Deloitte tax partners and directors., In the end, UM won the Merit Team Award and a scholarship of RMB10,000.
The Deloitte Tax Championship is an international and professional competition organised by the Shanghai Deloitte Tax Ltd and the Deloitte Tax Research Foundation for university students from the Greater China region. The competition aims to improve students’ general tax knowledge and to promote training of tax professionals.
The four award-winning students from UM are Kary Chao Un Teng, Loris Liao Zhi Hao, Louis Hong Longwei, and Marian Gong Mengyuan.
