On May 9th, our department joined forces with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) for a joint colloquium on qualitative research methods.

The morning opened with Siyin Chen (HKUST) sharing her experience turning a PhD thesis into a publication in Administrative Science Quarterly — “Art for Whose Sake? Managing Professional Autonomy and Empowered Clients in the Porcelain Capital of China”. This was followed by Haitao Yu (UM), who reflected on how he developed his research trajectory in the years after completing his PhD — marked by the Early Career Best Paper Award on Sustainability and Entrepreneurship from the Organizations and the Natural Environment (ONE) Division of the Academy of Management (AOM).

The afternoon brought fresh energy with PhD students’ research presentations, featuring Xinchen Lou (Peking University) and Carina Fu (UM), and four others from our department, who shared their research in a spirit of openness and growth.

Events like these reflect our commitment to building a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive research community in the department. We look forward to many more!
