A new book co-authored by the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Macau (UM), Jean Chen, surveys the collective rise of Chinese Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) and the significant impact of these enterprises on the development of the world economy and technological progress.
“Corporate Governance of Chinese Multinational Corporations” is a volume co-authored by Jean Chen, also Professor of Accounting and Finance at UM, Professor Runhui Lin from Nankai University and Li Xie, published by top-notch academic publisher Palgrave Macmillan.
It studies cases of Chinese MNEs, this book is the first empirical study of Chinese MNEs “supported by primary real-life cases”.
Since the global financial crisis in 2008, Chinese MNEs have continuously expanded their business scale. In the Fortune Global 500 list in 2019, the number of Chinese MNEs on the list reached 129, surpassing the United States for the first time. The s note that “even under the devastating COVID-19, China still occupied 133 spots among the top Fortune Global 500 largest MNEs in 2020”.
The book also analyses the problem of corporate governance and institutional gaps which have hampered their development.
