Abstract

Responsible leadership is critical for organizations of all types and at all times. The 2020 COVID19 pandemic reveals the life and death consequences of decisions and actions by leaders in government and business organizations alike. This pandemic came at the heel of the call for responsible leadership in major corporations such as the United States CEOs’ Business Roundtable in August 2019. Yet, there is a paucity of knowledge on how to lead responsibly in both time of normalcy and periods of crisis.

In her recent book chapter, Prof. Anne Tsui identified three main reasons for the paucity of science-based reliable knowledge on responsible leadership. She reflected on the philosophical and the moral foundation of the responsible research and researchers, and encouraged the scientific community of business disciplines to share in the responsibility to address the grand challenges of humanity by engaging in responsible research which strives for both rigor (credibility of evidence) and relevance (usefulness of the knowledge) by addressing problems important for the local context, the global community, or both. She also illustrated how the seven principles of responsible research can be used to guide in designing studies of responsible leadership.

Prof. Anne TSUI will have a conversation with us about this chapter. The conversation will be around the participants’ questions and ideas about the chapter and the topic of responsible leadership and responsible research. Please click (LINK) or scan the QR code to sign up for the conversation before or on Wed, Nov 11, 2020. The book chapter will be sent to the participants after registration.

As the speaker from the United States cannot enter Macau, she will be on Zoom leading this conversation while the other participants will be at a classroom on campus (E22-4010).
