The 1st International Accounting and Tax Research Symposium, jointly organized by the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) of the University of Macau and the Korean Academic Society of Taxation (KAST), was successfully held on 22 August 2025 at FBA.

The event opened with warm remarks from Professor Lawrence Hoc Nang FONG, Associate Dean of FBA, and Professor Seong Bong LEE, President of KAST. Both speakers introduced their respective institutions and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in advancing accounting and tax research.

Co-hosted by Professor Bryan Byung Hee LEE from Korea University and Professor Morris Ming LIU from the University of Macau, the symposium featured four academic presentations by scholars from AIM and KAST. Accounting and taxation are fundamental to a well-functioning society, playing critical roles in economic stability, social equity, and government operations. They ensure financial transparency, facilitate resource allocation, and support public services through effective revenue generation.

The symposium brought together scholars and professionals from the Department of Accounting and Information Management (AIM) of FBA and KAST, along with distinguished representatives from the Comissão Profissional dos Contabilistas (會計師專業委員會), including Mr. Iat Hoi Kuok (郭日海), Mr. Chi Chung Yung (容志聰), Mr. Iao In Ip (葉友賢), Ms. Iun Mei Lei (李婉薇), and from the Macau Society of Certified Practising Accountants (澳門會計師公會), Mr. Ho Hong Cheng (鄭可康).

The event concluded with heartfelt closing remarks, expressing sincere appreciation to all participants and organizers. The symposium laid the foundation for future collaborations in areas such as institutional partnerships, joint research initiatives, and impactful academic projects, all contributing to the growth and development of the accounting and taxation community.
