A team from the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) recently won a third prize at the Global Business Challenge (GBC) 2020 North Asia. The team was ranked among the top in the Hong Kong and Macao region alongside the City University of Hong Kong.

The GBC is a flagship international competition of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) for undergraduate students around the world. The event aims to discover business talent among students and cultivate future business leaders. Ever since its launch in 2009, the event has attracted participants from various countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Sri Lanka, India, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, Singapore, the Middle East, Russia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, South Africa, Ghana, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

Using actual case scenarios that meet CIMA’s professional qualification requirements, the competition requires participants to combine theoretical knowledge with practical applications. The selection panel then selects teams that show business potential as well as outstanding skills in accounting, finance, marketing, and management based on their case studies and presentations.

The UM team was formed by Bu ZiYou (Leader), Leong Hoi Ieng, Kwan Yue Wen, Fok Man Tong, and they were mentored by Philip Law, assistant professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Management.
