Short Biography of Dr. LEE

Dr. Il Houng Lee is a member of the Monetary Policy Board of the Bank of Korea. Prior to joining the Bank of Korea, he was the president of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). From 2013 to 2015, Dr. Lee served as the Ambassador for International Cooperation and G20 Sherpa. Prior to his appointment as the Ambassador, he was with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for more than 20 years.

His research interests include macroeconomics, international ­nance, monetary policy, trade, growth and income inequality. From 2010, he worked as the IMF Chief Resident Representative in China.

Dr. Lee earned his B.A. in Economics at London School of Economics and a Ph.D. in Economics at Warwick University in the UK. He is also a visiting professor at Jilin University in China.
